Talisman wildflower posy brooch
Talisman wildflower posy brooch
A UNIQUE SILVER BROOCH INSPIRED BY ENDANGERED WILDFLOWER SPECIES
This unique silver brooch is designed with names of some of our red list wildflower species etched into the surface. Gather a few of your favourite blooms or create a posy of dried flowers to display is this distinctive contemporary piece of jewellery.
The words are handwritten onto the silver before being etched to give a raised design which you can feel when you run your finger over the textured surface. The brooch pin is made from sterling silver. A piece of hand cut stylised silver is soldered into the base and you can collect little posies of flowers from your garden or dried grasses to display inside it (It is not designed to hold water).
The colourful hues of cornfield flowers were once a familiar part of our arable landscape. Sadly they are also the fastest declining suite of plants in the UK. Fascinating, sometimes rare, and often overlooked - they are frequently threatened by the arable farming on which they depend. This has a knock-on effect for other wildlife, including ground beetles, bats and birds. www.naturebftb.co.uk
The Talisman project is about lost words and species on the edge of extinction – wild flowers, birds, kelp forests, sea grass and, of course, lichen. They are Talisman pieces of jewellery to be worn and loved and remind the wearer that nature is important. We are part of nature, not separate from it, and we all need to take more care.
