Winter exhibitions and a cliff top residency

 - Rooted at Wheal Martyn -

'Rooted'; An emotional response to China clay. Makers rooted in Cornwall come together in this first group exhibition to show work inspired by the history and atmosphere of Wheal Martyn.

I have made work in collaboration with ceramic artist Bridget Macklin which you can see below right. She gathered material from around the site of Wheal Martyn and incorporated this into porcelain clay to make beautiful tiles which I then transformed into 2 neck pieces. I will also be showing my Talisman work in response to the incredible restoration work that has been done by the company Imerys Minerals who mine Wheal Martyn clay pits.

The restoration project at Wheal Martyn has seen 1.5 million trees planted, 5000 acres of heathland and woodland created, 150 hectares of china clay waste tips restored. Wheal Martyn restoration blog post where you can read more about their incredible project.

“It is possible to renew what has previously been changed or erased, if we are willing to put the work in." Imerys

- Battle of The Pins –

I have been part of the Precious Collective since its inception 5 years ago. To mark our 5th birthday we are putting on a show in Lille collecting the best of our international members together to put on an exhibition called "Battle of the Pins". It is a celebratory show in honour of the 5 years that the 'Precious Collective' has been around. It is also celebrating the fact that a Pin or Brooch has its own agency; an object in its own right that can reflect personality, politics, thoughts, feelings, messages ... or anything the maker or wearer wants it to be! All will be revealevd soon!!

 - Residency at Bedruthan Steps -

I’ll be spending a week working at The Bedruthan Steps Hotel on the north coast of Cornwall just above Mawgan Porth. It’s a stunning location and I am hoping there will be some excellent winter weather to watch. I intend to explore the coast path and will be keeping a diary of sorts to mark my progress and my thoughts which I will share with you. My hope is that I will conjure new ideas and refine others like the ones below which I have been playing with over the summer.

This will coincide with Shine at Bedruthan Steps which gathers together members of Design Nation Cornwall and Devon to showcase our work. Starting on November 12th 2022 - 'Shine' at Bedruthan Hotel, Mawgan Porth. Described as ‘a creative outpost on the Cornish clifftops’, the gallery will host an exhibition of Design-Nation's Cornwall and Devon Cluster. We will show a range of artwork including textiles, glass, ceramics and jewellery.
