Ordering bespoke jewellery commissions can perhaps feel like a daunting prospect so I wanted to share some projects have I have worked on recently and show you how easy and satisfying it can be to commission custom made jewellery.

Working to commission is a great chance for me to work with you and get your input on a design. You might want something as simple as a specific stone in a ring design or you might want to take a design I already make but make is more bespoke to your requirements. These are some of my recent commissions:

customer experiences

Some friends came to me, independently of each other, to design special pieces of work to celebrate their wedding anniversary. They kindly sent me the following review that explains beautifully the lovely circumstances of this jewellery commission.

“ When a very significant wedding anniversary came along I turned to Lucy for help. Between us we hit on designing a pair of cufflinks for my husband - textured silver with tiny rubies to commemorate the event. They were just perfect and working with Lucy was such a joy. Imagine my shock and delight when I discovered that my husband had had the same idea and there was also a Lucy Spink box for me! We must both have impeccable taste! ” - B.

“ Completely independently, I had the same idea. Knowing how much my wife liked Lucy's work, Lucy and I developed a design for a chain and removable pendant that I thought was my idea but that Lucy had ensured was a partner to the cufflinks coming my way. A pair of gifts that capture in their designs a special event in a special place, especially for us and completely unbeknown to one another. ” - A.

The next commission shows the ways my existing designs can be customised to your requirements.

Chris originally bought a gift for his partner for Christmas. After receiving the earrings he then contacted me to ask about making further bespoke pieces of jewellery for his wife’s birthday in 2021. It’s always really lovely to be asked to make something for a special occasion and being involved in that person’s celebrations is a privilege.

In this example, Chris wanted to add some gold seams to a chunky bangle, a bespoke length on an existing necklace design and a ring in a slightly wider fit.

Custom Gold Seam Bangle, Jillie wearing her new pieces and the bespoke Monolith necklace.

I posted a ring sizer to Chris to find out Jillie’s ring size. Chris then agreed which pieces he’d like to buy, using my website to share with his grown up kids, Lucy and Dan - one living abroad and the other in the UK, to make the final decisions. Lucy and Dan chose a necklace and Chris chose a Mylor ring and a gold seam bangle. These are their reviews:

Chris -Just to say Jillie absolutely LOVED the jewellery as I knew she would!  We had a present opening session by ZOOM so both kids and grandchildren could watch and take part and I have attached a photo of her wearing the necklace.  The ring fits perfectly and the bangle slips over her hand easily. ”

Jillie - “ I am the VERY lucky person who received this beautiful necklace in its wonderful packaging! I am over the moon!! Thank you Lucy, you are an extremely talented lady! ”

Monolith Cuff

This Monolith Cuff is a wide band of Reticulated Silver.

The texture on the silver is made by reticulation which is a process of heating and cooling the metal a number of times to separate the alloys before finally heating it until the silver melts and pools. Each process makes a completely unique piece of silver with markings like a finger print. The holes in the surface are a product of the process and I cannot guarantee where or if they will arise.

Approximate measurements are 4cm wide x 17cm circumference including a 3-4 cm gap to slot over your wrist.

Silver Monolith Cuff

This silver Monolith Cuff is a narrower version for those who like things a bit more dainty!

It is approximately 12mm in width with a deeply textured 18ct gold band across it. The texture on the silver is made by reticulation which is a process of heating and cooling the metal a number of times to separate the alloys before finally heating it until the silver melts and pools. Each process makes a completely unique piece of silver with markings like a finger print.

Sapphire Engagement Ring

The answer was yes!

This beautiful pale blue Sapphire is set off perfectly by the slightly grey tone of white gold. White gold is often treated to make it look ‘white’ but I find its natural colouring is much more interesting and frames the stone better.

Commission cluster ring

Sterling silver with black fresh water pearl, owners blue sea glass and pale pink Sapphires.

This was made in response to a request for something to mark a big birthday. It needed to reflect a love of the sea and beach combing days and include the owner’s piece of sea glass. I chose the pale pink sapphires to bring out the glorious colours in the black pearl.

Lichen Brooches

What is Precious?

My Lichen Brooches are made in response to this question.

My experience of the landscape I live in shapes my whole practice as a jeweler and these pieces are a physical representation of things I have seen and collected on my walks. They question the material hierarchy of the jewellery industry and allow the wearer to summon a sense of the landscape through touch and texture.

The lichen twigs are held in place by fine metal arms which can be opened so you can put your own found treasure in place and wear it on your favourite jumper.
