A UNIQUE SILVER BROOCH AND PENDANT INSPIRED BY ENDANGERED WILDFLOWER SPECIES

This silver brooch is designed with names of some of our most endangered wildflowers etched into the surface. It is made as a brooch first but comes with a handmade, plant dyed leather strap which it clips onto so you can wear it as a necklace too.

I hand write the words onto the silver before etching to give a raised design which you can feel when you run your finger over the textured surface. The brooch pin is made from sterling silver and can be removed when worn as a necklace. A piece of hand cut stylised silver and gold is soldered into the base and a piece of felt cut to fit inside so you can collect wildflower seeds to rewild your local area.

The colourful hues of cornfield flowers were once a familiar part of our arable landscape. Sadly they are also the fastest declining suite of plants in the UK. Fascinating, sometimes rare, and often overlooked - they are frequently threatened by the arable farming on which they depend. This has a knock-on effect for other wildlife, including ground beetles, bats and birds. www.naturebftb.co.uk

The Talisman project is about lost words and species on the edge of extinction – wild flowers, birds, kelp forests, sea grass and, of course, lichen. They are Talisman pieces of jewellery to be worn and loved and remind the wearer that nature is important. We are part of nature, not separate from it, and we all need to take more care.
