Malachite ring

Malachite ring

£320.00

Recycled silver and Malachite ring with subtle surface texture.

A beautifully detailed malachite set in a sterling silver rub over setting mounted on a wide textured sterling silver band.

Malachite comes from various places around the world and has been used since 4000BCE. Its name derives from the Greek word for mallow as the colour is similar to the leaves of the mallow plant. It has been used as a paint pigment and for decorative purposes too such as the malachite room in Castillo de Chapultepec in Mexico City.

The stone is variously said to aid sleep, keep away evil spirits and contagious diseases and bring success. The ancient Egyptians associated the colour green with fertility and new life.
